Made-to-measure roller shutters for windows and balcony doors, with three types of slat: PVC, roll-formed aluminium filled with polyurethane foam, and extruded security aluminium. The shutter is usually decided together with the window, because the monoblock box sits on the frame and everything arrives as a single unit. But it can also be ordered on its own: to replace a curtain that no longer closes properly, to motorise the one in the living room, or to fit a security shutter on a ground floor without touching the window.

PVC, aluminium or security slat?

  • Small and medium openingsPVC

    44 mm slat

The cheapest and the one most homes in Spain have. It does the job in small and medium openings, but on wide balconies and on façades that get the afternoon sun the curtain bows over the years and the slats end up closing badly. For an opening wider than two metres there are better options.

  • Ground floorsSecurity

    1 mm extruded aluminium

Autoblocante 41, CD40 and the 47 mm micro-perforated self-locking slat, which lets light and air through with the shutter down. A self-locking curtain cannot be lifted from outside and it takes a lock. It weighs between 8 and 9.5 kilos per square metre, so it almost always comes with a motor. Up to 3000 × 3000 mm, in 20 colours.

Bars or a security shutter? The shutter protects just as well when closed and disappears when open; the bars are always there.

Monoblock or exterior box, covers and guides

The PVC monoblock box rests on the window frame, inside the opening, and disappears behind the finish. There are three: straight without insulation, decorative with insulation, and straight with RTX insulation, in heights of 155, 185, 200 and 225 mm. The height is not a matter of taste, the rolled-up curtain decides it. With the 45 mm aluminium slat, these are the limits.

Monoblock boxTotal shutter height
155 mmup to 1.65 m
185 mmup to 2.7 m
200 mmup to 3.2 m
225 mmup to 4.1 m

The thicker security slat needs one size more: a 2.2 m balcony door calls for 200 instead of 185. And bear in mind that the box takes height away from the glass; in a 1.2 m opening, a 185 box shows.

  • Covers. They are chosen separately: four white PVC covers are the normal option, an aluminium front lacquered to match the façade is the best choice for a sunny side, and the bottom cover or every cover but the top one can be lacquered too, with a sturdier service lid.
  • Exterior box. If the window is already in and you do not want to touch it, the exterior aluminium box, 137, 165 or 180 mm, hangs above the opening on the façade side, visible and with no building work.
  • Guides. They match the window: the I-80 PVC guide is the usual one with a monoblock box, with a wide flange that covers the edge of the frame with no visible joint, and the compact 60 × 30 guide is for the reveal or for a narrow frame where the wide one has nothing to rest on.

Manual, button or remote

  • Strap

The old-fashioned strap is still fine for a light curtain, and it is the cheapest option.

  • Button motor

It comes with a wall switch.

  • Radio motor

It is operated with a single-channel remote, a wall remote, a pocket remote, a five-channel desk remote or a sixteen-channel one to run every shutter in the house.

When is the motor worth it?

With a security slat, always. With a 37 slat on a large balcony, almost always. Otherwise it is convenience, but a convenience you use twice a day. The only thing to plan is the power point next to the box, before the builder closes the wall.

Colours: from white to RAL and wood finishes

White, ivory, silver, bronze, grey and black; anthracite RAL 7016 and over twenty more RAL shades; textured Sable finishes, stainless, gold; six wood finishes, from knotty pine to walnut and embero, and two-tone combinations such as 7016 outside and white inside. Not all of them work for everything.

Box, covers and guides are coloured separately, and the outside colour can differ from the inside, which is how it usually goes when the window is white indoors and anthracite towards the street. If a colour does not exist for a part, the configurator says so on that part.

Measuring, configuring and receiving the shutter

  1. Measure the opening

Measure width and height at three points and keep the smallest. The minimum width is 400 mm; the maximum in PVC and foam-filled aluminium is set by the box, and in security it is 3000 mm, 2750 for micro-perforated.

  2. Configure

You choose the slat, box, covers, guides, outside and inside colour, drive, remotes and extras, and the price including VAT appears instantly. The configurator works out the weight of the shutter and only offers the motors that can move it, up to 170 kilos of curtain; if no combination of box and motor will hold it, it tells you before you order.

  3. Production and delivery

Production starts when the order is confirmed and the shutter arrives in 3–4 weeks, anywhere in mainland Spain. A three-metre one with a 225 box travels assembled and is a long package, so it helps to have room and someone to help unload.

  4. Payment and warranty

Payment is online by card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Bizum or bank transfer. The assembly carries a three-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Two ways to give the height

"With the box" is the complete shutter, from the top edge of the box to the sill of the opening: the one you use to replace an existing shutter. "The opening only" is the height the curtain has to cover, and the box is added on top: the one for new-build or a new window. With an exterior box you always give the height of the opening. And if you order it alone for an opening with a built-in box, measure the clear opening below the box.
